What is Focused Shockwave Therapy?

Focused Shockwave Therapy delivers controlled acoustic pulses into targeted tissue, creating microtrauma at the cellular level that stimulates the body's natural repair mechanisms. This helps restore mobility, support tissue flexibility, and relieve discomfort.

How it works

A handheld device delivers focused acoustic waves to the treatment area. These waves penetrate deep into tissue, helping stimulate blood flow, support cellular repair, and ease chronic tension patterns.

Why clients use it

Clients incorporate Focused Shockwave Therapy into their protocols for a range of goals and conditions — from acute recovery to long-term optimization.

Chronic joint or muscle pain

Tendonitis and overuse injuries

Plantar fasciitis

Supporting tissue repair after injury

Complementing other recovery modalities

What to expect

Session Duration:15-20 min

A coupling gel is applied to the treatment area. The handheld device delivers pulses you'll feel as a tapping sensation. Some areas may be tender during treatment. Sessions are quick -- typically 15-20 minutes.

Safety considerations

Not recommended over areas with open wounds, infections, or tumors. Inform staff of any blood clotting disorders.

Recovery Stacking — Sequencing Guide

Based on clinical evidence, here is how Focused Shockwave Therapy pairs with other OutRecover modalities.

PEMF Therapy

Before

Cellular priming, circulation

PEMF improves microcirculation and cellular readiness, enhancing the tissue response to acoustic wave therapy.

Red Light Therapy

After

Tissue repair, inflammation support

Shockwave stimulates repair cascades; RLT after supports mitochondrial recovery and inflammation balance.

Class IV Laser Therapy

After

Deep tissue recovery, pain support

Shockwave creates microstimulation; laser after supports deeper photobiomodulation and tissue repair.

Infrared Sauna

After

Circulation, muscle relaxation

Post-shockwave sauna supports circulation and helps ease any residual tension in treated areas.

Dry Cold Plunge

After

Inflammation support, pain management

Cold plunge after shockwave may help modulate inflammation and ease discomfort in treated areas.

Compression Therapy

After

Circulation, metabolic waste clearance

Compression after shockwave supports venous return and helps clear metabolic byproducts from treated tissue.

Molecular Hydrogen Therapy

Before or After

Oxidative stress support, recovery

Hydrogen supports oxidative balance before or after shockwave, complementing the body's repair response.

H-Wave Therapy

After

Circulation, nerve support

H-Wave after shockwave supports local circulation and may help ease post-treatment discomfort.

Sequencing guidance is based on clinical evidence and practitioner experience. Always consult with your OutRecover team before beginning a protocol.
